Deuteronomy 11:18-19 says, "Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."
In this scripture and many others, the Bible makes it crystal clear that rearing children in the knowledge of God's Word is a responsibility that belongs to - above anyone else - the parents of the child. Yet, in the Christian community, we come together as a family to draw from each other, pour into each other, and love the world around us. Therefore - the role of the youth ministry is to serve as an asset to parents and students by providing a venue in which students can experience fellowship and biblical teaching that is relevant to their world. However, the youth minister's job really only starts with the student. In reality, his ministry extends to the parents as well. And when youth ministers and parents partner together to support and love teens, the outcome is immeasurable.
